Worship on May 18

The eager worshipers gathered together in anticipation of a time to relax and rest in God’s love.

Rodney Lawrence opened the announcement time. Many people were talking about the cookie canvas that we had done the day before. We gave 154 dozen cookies to random families around Rossville. It is such a fun way to get our name out in the community.

Deb P, Julie W, Anita L, Regina G and Vanessa D each had pray concerns to share with the group. Rodney closed in prayer.

Connie Hinesley was our liturgist of the morning. She opened our service with a reading from Philippians 1:6 “He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Connie reminded us that God is not finished with us. There is always more work to be done in us. We shouldn’t be discouraged by this. We should be encouraged to press on in our faith.

Connie was also our song leader. Our opening song were “Shout to the Lord” and “This is the Day.”

The pastor led us in a time of prayer.

Vanessa Dotson taught the children. She had a glass pie plate and put it on a small stool in front the children. She poured a little milk into the plate. She talked about how that could represent the world. She poured in some drops of food coloring around the milk. Each dot stayed where it was. It impacted its around. But, they didn’t work together to impact the whole. Then she poured in some dish soap. That worked its way through the milk. It mixed the dots all together.
She taught that this is how the Holy Spirit works in our world. He pulls us all together to make sure our works impact the whole.

Following the offering we sang, “Lord I want to be a Christian”.

The scripture reading was from the first chapter of Hebrews.

The pastor talked about how the author was sure that God had spoken through the prophets of old and through Jesus. He is also sure that God wants to talk through Jesus to us. What words of love would God have for you if you took the time to listen?

We also saw that Jesus is greater than the prophets of old. Jesus is also greater than the angels. There is nothing in all creation or in our history or in our traditions that is greater than Jesus. Do we worship something other than Jesus?

The closing hymn was “I Surrender All.”

About 108 fine folk enjoyed our time of worship together.
